Do you understand the working principle of multi-stage centrifugal compressors? Many friends have heard of single-stage centrifugal compressors, but are not very familiar with multi-stage centrifugal compressors. Multi stage centrifugal compressors gradually increase the pressure of gas through multiple compression stages to achieve the required high-pressure output, and are widely used in industries such as petroleum, chemical, natural gas processing, and power generation. Below, the Turbo-Tech editor will provide you with a detailed introduction to the working principle and characteristics of multi-stage centrifugal compressors.
1、 Overview of Multi stage Centrifugal Compressors
A centrifugal compressor is a speed type compressor, and a multi-stage centrifugal compressor consists of multiple compression stages, each stage containing key components such as impellers, diffusers, and refluxers.
The working principle of a multi-stage centrifugal compressor is that the gas first enters the center of the first stage impeller. When the impeller rotates at high speed, the gas is accelerated by centrifugal force and flows radially outward along the impeller. During this process, the velocity and pressure of the gas were both increased.
The gas flowing out of the first stage impeller then enters the first stage diffuser. The cross-sectional area of the diffuser gradually increases, and the gas flow rate decreases. Part of its kinetic energy is converted into pressure energy, causing the gas pressure to further increase.
After passing through the diffuser, the gas changes its flow direction through the reflux device and then enters the center of the next stage impeller, repeating the above compression process. After each level of compression, the pressure and temperature of the gas will increase.
Through multi-stage continuous compression, the gas ultimately reaches the required high pressure. In the multi-stage compression process, a cooler may also be installed in the middle stage to cool the gas and reduce its temperature, thereby improving compression efficiency.
2、 Characteristics of multi-stage centrifugal compressors
High efficiency: The impeller of multi-stage centrifugal compressors usually adopts a rear curved blade design, which can effectively reduce flow losses and improve the efficiency of the compressor.
High flow rate: suitable for handling large-scale gas flow.
Continuous operation: capable of providing continuous and stable compressed gas flow.
Wide applicability: The advantage of multi-stage centrifugal compressors is that they can achieve high pressure ratios, making them suitable for industrial applications that require high gas pressure, such as petrochemicals, natural gas transportation, and other fields.
At present, the single machine exhaust pressure of Turbo-Tech Mn (H) series can reach 12MPa and the single machine power is 50MW. If you are interested in Turbo-Tech multi-stage centrifugal compressors, please feel free to contact us.
